help us

Heyfield Wetlands wouldn't be what it is today without the support and generosity of the local community.

We continually rely on the help of volunteers to offer the natural haven that is the Heyfield Wetlands. Not only does it provide a safe place for wildlife and plant species to thrive in the heart of our town, but it also offers a space for the community to come together in a beautiful environment.

We're so thankful to everyone who has helped out - in whatever capacity they've been able - and for those who will continue to support us into the future. There are many ways you and your loved ones can get involved, so be sure to explore this page and find something that interests you.

how you can help?

1

Habitat Restoration

Volunteers can help plant native vegetation, remove invasive species, and maintain the wetlands’ natural habitats in order to support the local wildlife and improve the overall health of the ecosystem.

2

Wildlife Monitoring

Engage in bird watching, frog surveys, and monitoring other wildlife populations. This valuable data can be used for research and conservation efforts to better understand the species that inhabit the wetlands.

3

Trail Maintainance

Help us maintain and improve the walking trails, boardwalks, and exercise stations, by clearing debris, repairing walkways, and ensuring the trails are safe and accessible for all visitors.

4

Educational Programs

Education is key in informing the local community and visitors about the importance of wetlands. Help us guide school groups and lead visitors across the site while teaching them about wetlands and our conservation efforts in the local area.

5

Event Support

The wetlands hosts a number of community days, clean-up events and fundraising activities across the year. Join us in making these events come alive by managing, organising and helping set-up before and on the day.

6

Visitor Centre Assistance

The Heyfield Wetlands Information Centre is a valuable resource for locals and visitors alike. Come and lend a hand providing information to the public, selling local crafts, and assisting with the overall operation of the centre.

7

Citizen Science Projects

Collaborate with other like-minded people by joining our citizen science projects including water quality testing and biodiversity assessments which all make a difference in gathering valuable data for our ongoing conservation work.

8

Fundraising & Grant Writing

If you've got experience in fundraising or grant writing, we'd love to hear from you! You could help us secure financial resources which make ongoing projects and initiatives possible for current and future generations.

9

Public Outreach & Advocacy

Ensuring the broader community know about the important things we're doing at the wetlands is vital. Help us with our social media, community outreach and raising awareness by encouraging more people to visit, donate, or volunteer.

10

Conservation Workdays

With 28 hectares on offer, there are always things to do in protecting and maintaining the wetlands. We host  regular volunteer workdays where community members come together to tackle larger projects such as building new habitats, installing bird boxes, or improving visitor amenities.

11

Donate

Financial contributions allow us to buy materials and resources that go into maintaining the wetlands and ensuring it continues to be a thriving habitat for local flora and fauna, and a stunning green space for the community to enjoy all year around.
