Revegetation Effort by Peninsula Grammar Year 9 Students

We had the pleasure of hosting a group of enthusiastic Year 9 students from Peninsula Grammar School.

These students, participating in a 10 day outdoor education program at the Heyfield Wetlands, dedicating their morning to our ongoing revegetation project.

Over two sessions, they planted an impressive 1500 species in the ephemeral zone (the area around the lagoons that sometimes floods). This marks around 15 years of consistent support from Peninsula Grammar’s Year 9 students, contributing to the planting of over 20,000 trees, shrubs, grasses, and aquatic plants in our wetlands.

The students' efforts have made them the most significant group involved in our revegetation projects.

This initiative is part of a generous two-year grant from the Gippsland Lakes Coordinating Committee, aiming to add approximately 15,000 plants around our lagoons and ponds. Although there’s still work to be done, we’re confident that we’ll meet our goals by the end of the year. Stay tuned for more updates, as we expect more groups to join us to continue this great work. A huge thank you to the Peninsula Grammar students and everyone involved in making our wetlands a greener, healthier place!
